The creators of «Blade Runner 2049» sue Elon Musk — for using AI images from the movie for Tesla ads

Alcon Entertainment, which created the movie «Blade Runner 2049», has filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk, Tesla, and Warner Bros. Discovery. The reason was the unauthorized use of images from the movie during Tesla’s presentation at WBD.

The producers of the cult movie accuse the companies of deliberate copyright infringement. According to Alcon Entertainment, at the presentation Cybercab used AI-generated images of a character resembling Ryan Gosling (who played one of the main roles in the movie «Blade Runner 2049»). This happened despite a direct ban on October 9.

At the presentation, Elon Musk did not limit himself to showing images — he expressed his admiration for Villeneuve’s film, but noted that he would prefer a different future. The billionaire joked that the only thing he liked about the dystopia was the main character’s coat.

Representatives of Alcon Entertainment emphasize the political aspect of the case. The company does not want to be associated with Musk because of his support for Donald Trump and controversial public statements. In particular, Alcon’s management recalls Musk’s recent jokes about Vice President Kamala Harris and his statements that «border on hate speech».

The lawsuit also emphasizes the potential damage to future projects. Uncoordinated use of materials can harm the series «Blade Runner 2099», which is being prepared for release on Amazon Prime Video. Any association with Musk, according to Alcon, scares away potential partners because of his radical political views.

Alcon Entertainment’s lawsuit demands monetary compensation without specifying a specific amount. Additionally, the studio seeks to ban Tesla from using AI-generated images to promote its products.
