Kevin Smith is working on a sequel to the satirical comedy «Dogma» and has confirmed the return of the film’s main actors.

After purchasing the distribution rights from Miramax, the original «Dogma» will be available for streaming platforms for the first time in many years and will be released in 4K format.

Director announced about working on the sequel during a speech at the Vulture festival in New York. According to him, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon will play much bigger roles than just cameos.

«The only way to make a sequel to Dogma — is to involve them both. Some people will say: “Don’t touch the movie, you’ll ruin it”. And I will answer: yes, I will. But I’m excited because I’ve found the right approach,» Smith says.

The original film celebrated its 25th anniversary this year. The film also stars Linda Fiorentino, Salma Hayek, Alan Rickman, Chris Rock and singer Alanis Morissette as God.

The plot of «Dogma» revolves around two castaway angels, Bartleby (Affleck) and Loki (Damon), who find a religious loophole to return to heaven. Their plan could lead to the end of all things, so the last descendant of Jesus Christ must stop them with the help of a motley crew of helpers, including — the thirteenth apostle, a muse, and two drug addicted guides.
