The director of «Mad Max» George Miller has revealed in a new interview that he has a script ready for the next film in the Max Rockatansky franchise — although he is not sure if it will ever be made.
Miller, who has released four Max Rockatansky films, last returned to the franchise in 2024 with a Furiosa prequel starring Anya Taylor-Joy (despite the fact that the original thought about rejuvenating Charlize Theronon the screen with the help of technology), which received only 30 lines in the movie. But it seems that the series under the director’s direction has a chance to continue — as the script for the future project looks quite ready.
«We have one more script, but I have a lot of stories and notes like that in my head and beyond. I’m actually a professional dreamer,» Miller says in an interview with Vulture. «And in these stories there is Mad Max».
The director went on to add that a movie about Mad Max «will definitely not be one of the two things» he will take on in the near future — although there are small chances of it happening.
«Very often we plan to make a movie and then something happens. We’ll see»,” Miller concludes.
Although Miller does not specify what part of the story the potential film might cover, in previous interviews he has hinted at working on a prequel to the 2015 film «Fury Road» — starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, which was the fourth in the series and served as an interquel between the events of the first and second films.
At the time of its release, «Furiosa» Miller saidwho often thinks about what happened after the events of this movie.
«I often think about what we see when Furiosa goes up to the Citadel on that platform at the very end of [Wrath Road] and nods goodbye to Max wandering the Wasteland,» he explained. «I wonder what she’s doing sitting at the top of the dominant hierarchy? Is she falling into the trap that most revolutionaries do? You know, yesterday’s hero becomes tomorrow’s tyrant, which is a classic in storytelling».
Recall that «Furiosa», despite optimistic predictions, has not had a very good start (with a modest $59 million) and now itsglobal cash on hand reaches $174 millionwhich is slightly more than the production budget of $168 million, excluding marketing costs. «Fury Road» didn’t really do well at the box office either, with a debut of $45 million, although the overall gross and reception were better ($380 million worldwide).
