The creator of «Squid Game», Hwang Dong-hyuk, says he agreed to shoot the second season of the series solely for the money.
Back in June 2022, Hyuk said that the production of the series for Netflix caused him so much stress that it affected his health — now in BBC interview He clarified that he had lost «8-9 teeth» and agreed to continue solely because of the money, as he did not earn much in the first season:
«Although the first season was a huge global success, to be honest, I didn’t earn much. So the second season will be my compensation».
Earlier, the director said that he had received a salary from Netflix in advance, while the streaming service noted in a comment that «solid compensation» is paid to creators «regardless of the success or failure of the show».
«The stress I’m under right now is much more intense,» says Hyuk, commenting on the second season. «I might have to pull a few more teeth very soon».
The second season of «Squid Game» will follow the player and winner of the previous deadly competition, Song Gi Hoon (Lee Jong Che), who will return to the game to save the other participants and find the organizers. The sequel will also feature the game’s frontman (Lee Byung-hong), his police officer brother (Woo Ha-joon), and a recruiter of new players (Kang Yoo).
