Vampires have feelings too! At least that’s what Bill Skashgård thinks.
Despite the fact that Robert Eggers’ upcoming horror film «Nosferatu» is a remake of the 1922 German expressionist film of the same name, the director says that he wanted to completely change the ending of the century-old film. But the film’s star, Bill Skashgård, convinced him otherwise.
«I sent him the origin story of Orlok that I had written. Together we achieved the desired result. I was sick of noble and sad vampires, so I decided: “He’s a demon. He’s just pure evil,” Eggers told SFX magazine.
The director wanted to move away from the romantic and super-emotional vampire trait that characterizes most vampire films, including many adaptations of «Dracula». But the actor playing Count Orlok had other ideas.
«Bill said: “Yeah, but you need to have moments when he shows some vulnerability,”»,” Eggers adds.
And it seems that the star of «It» was right, as the director explains that preserving a bit of Orlok’s humanity works in the film’s favor.
«These are subtle details, not many, but enough. I think the ending of the movie became much more powerful because of Bill’s sensitivity, and at the same time it preserved the image of a majestic, creepy, masculine vampire».
The upcoming vampire horror movie is a remake of the 1922 film «Nosferatu», which tells the story of a young couple’s encounter with a deadly bloodsucker, which in turn is based on Bram Stoker’s novel «Dracula» from 1897. Judging by the synopsis, Robert Eggers’ new film will have a similar plot: «Nosferatu — is a gothic story of obsession: a creepy vampire becomes obsessed with a young woman, which leads to terrible consequences».
In addition to Skáshgård, the film also stars Nicolas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrine, and Willem Dafoe.
The premiere of «Nosferatu» in Ukraine is scheduled for January 1, 2025.
