Apple TV+ expands sci-fi series collection with a movie adaptation «The Murderbot Diaries» Martha Wells — and we can already watch the first trailer.
The «Murderbot» series tells the story of an android from a futuristic megacorporation who is hired to protect the crew of a space exploration mission. Without their knowledge, the murderbot seizes control of its programming to be able to disobey orders. But all he wants to do with this freedom is… watch soap operas. In addition, over time, he begins to become attached to annoying (and sometimes charming) people.
Despite the presence of an armed robot and a spacey backdrop, the series seems to have all the basic elements of a comedy: an odd crew, a conflict that brings them together, workplace rivalries, and at least one messy love story going on in the background.
The lead role is taken by Swedish actor and «Emmy» winner Alexander Skashgård, known for the series «Big Little Lies» and «The Heirs». Among the rest of the cast: Noma Dumezweni («The Watcher)», David Dastmalchian («Ant-Man»), Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tattiona Jones and Tamara Podemski.
The showrunners were Chris and Paul Weitz («American Pie»), and David S. Goyer, who directed by a screening «Foundation» Isaac Asimov, became one of the executive producers.
The first two episodes of «Murderbot» (out of a total of 10) will be released on Apple TV+ on May 16, with the rest to follow every Friday.
