The Internet in Ukraine «has accelerated» to 83.81 Mbps, and the number of users has grown to 31.5 million people — DataReportal report

Research company DataReportal has released a global report Digital 2025, which, among other things, shares data on the use of services and devices in Ukraine.

Population and average age

Interestingly, the report shows an increase in the population of Ukraine by 2.2% or 838,000 people in early 2025 compared to the previous year (38.3 million people in total). 70.4% of Ukrainians live in urban areas, women account for 53.5% of the population, and the average age is 41.8 years.

Internet usage and speed

  • As of the beginning of 2025, 31.5 million people in Ukraine used the Internet with a penetration rate of 82.4%, while —21.6 million, or 56.4% of the population, used social networks.
  • According to GSMA Intelligence, 94.1% of mobile connections in Ukraine can now be considered «broadband», i.e. connected via 3G, 4G or 5G mobile networks.
  • The average mobile Internet download speed is 31.23 Mbps (+25.8 percent) and fixed Internet speed is 83.81 Mbps (+13.7 percent).

Use of operating systems, browsers, and search engines

67% of mobile Internet users have Android and 32% have iOS.

58% of Ukrainians use Chrome, 15% Edge, and 6.8% Opera.

The vast majority of citizens use Google for searching, but the share of Russian Yandex is still quite high, reaching 11.27%.

The most popular queries in search engines — weather, translator, YouTube, Ukrnet, and alarm map.

Use of social networks

  • 51.9% of social media users in Ukraine are women, 48.1% are men.
  • 61.5% — people aged 18 and older.
  • 68.5% (regardless of age) used at least one social media platform in January 2025.
  • YouTube has 21.6 million users from Ukraine, based on advertising data — down 11.1% year-on-year.
  • Facebook is used by 13.9 million Ukrainians — and, interestingly, the platform did not lose users, but rather added them, albeit in a very low percentage (+50 thousand people), while another Meta social network, Instagram, recorded an outflow of users from Ukraine — minus 3.2% and a total of 12 million users remained.
  • TikTok users in Ukraine amount to 17 million people aged 18 and older — an increase of 3.2%.
  • Twitter (X) has only 1.6 million users from Ukraine and has been showing record levels of declining ad reach, and, consequently, a drop in the number of users — minus 64.6%.
