«Лицар сімох королівств» / HBO
The series “Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” will tell about the adventures of the knight Dunk and his squire Egg, who travel through Westeros 100 years before the events of “Game of Thrones.”
At the Warner Bros. Discovery press conference, it was announced that the series “Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” will debut in the summer of 2025, while Variety, citing its own sources, insists that it will premiere later (fall, or even early winter). The show will consist of 6 episodes, which will be released every Sunday on HBO and Max (in Ukraine, likely every Monday on Megogo).
The main roles are taken by Peter Kleffi (Dunk) and Dexter Son Ansel (Egg), with other cast members including Finn Bennett (Aerion Targaryen), Bertie Carvel (Baelor Targaryen), Tanzin Crawford (Tanselle), Daniel Ings (Lionel Baratheon), and Sam Spruell (Maekar Targaryen).
Three of the six episodes will be directed by Sara Adina Smith (“Chemistry Lessons”), and the rest by Owen Harris (“Black Mirror”). The screenplay was written by Martin and Ira Parkers (“The Sympathizer”, “House of the Dragon”), and Ryan Condal (“House of the Dragon”) joined as an executive producer.
The series has a significantly smaller budget than “House of the Dragon” or “Game of Thrones.” George Martin noted that “90% of the series’ events will take place in a field with tents,” but added that even these sets turned out to be fabulous.
The writer also shared several new photos from the shooting, and noted the “perfect chemistry” between Kleffi and Ansel, who “seem as if they stepped right out of his books.”
Let’s recall that filming started in June 2024 and took about four months — the series is now in post-production, so the release date set for summer-fall seems quite realistic.
Let’s also remind you that HBO is developing a series about Aegon the Conqueror Targaryen, written by the author of “Batman” Metsen Tomlin, and there are plans for the series ‘10,000 Ships’. Regarding the direct prequel about Jon Snow, it was canceled “due to a lack of source material”, but later they hinted they might revisit the idea. Also in development is a feature film ‘Game of Thrones’.
Earlier, Martin stated that this year he lacked time to work on the book “The Winds of Winter” (the sixth novel in the ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ series) mainly due to excessive involvement in television projects. However, this did not prevent him from announcing another story in the ‘Game of Thrones’ universe and discussing a mysterious new project with Maisie Williams, who played Arya Stark.
