Bella Ramsay, a 21-year-old actress who played Ellie in the TV series «The Last of Us, has announced that she has been diagnosed with autism.
One of the creative team members, who also has a daughter with autism, noticed signs of neurodevelopmental disorder during the filming of the first season of the series. Eventually, Ramsay turned to psychiatrists, and they confirmed the diagnosis.
«I’ve thought about neurodiversity a little bit before, but for some reason I’ve always been reluctant to say it,» Ramsay told the British Vogue. «I was diagnosed with autism when I was filming season 1 of The Last of Us».
The actress says that she has always felt «weird» and «alone», and has also noticed «certain sensory problems» that are typical for people with autism
«I’ve always watched people and learned from them. It helped with my acting,— says Ramsay, adding that her diagnosis has freed her and helped her understand herself better. «It allows me to walk through the world with more grace because I can’t do the easy everyday tasks that everyone else seems to be able to do».
