Milla Jovovich and Dave Batista star in the movie «In the Lost Lands», which is an adaptation of George Martin’s dark fantasy of the same name — but this work was not easy, primarily due to the success of the series «Game of Thrones».
Batista, who is a big fan of stories from the world of Westeros himself, in an interview with GamesRadar said that he felt pressure and excitement during filming, given the high standards set by previous adaptations.
«I definitely feel the pressure. I’m a little nervous because we have a lot to justify, you know. It’s one thing when people’s expectations are not set, but here they are very high. The bar is high, the standard is high. And we want to live up to it».
Batista’s colleague on the set (and the wife of the film’s director, Paul Anderson), Milla Jovovich, has similar feelings, although she tried to compare the two adaptations from different angles.
«I felt like it was so separate from the world of Westeros. I knew that Paul and I could give it a whole new look and take the audience on a journey through George R.R. Martin’s story that is not part of the world of Game of Thrones, as if it were a completely separate reality».
Anderson himself says that he has created a «experience that is so visually different from Game of Thrones» that they should not be compared at all.
«We have everything people like about George: complex characters, dark creatures, and twists and turns. But here we have a completely different visual palette».
«In the Lost Lands» is an adaptation of George Martin’s 1982 story of the same name, which tells the story of the powerful witch Grey Alice (Jovovich)’s journey into dangerous lands in search of an artifact for the queen — in the company of a guide, Boyce (Batista)
George Martin himself, according to Anderson, praised the film during a screening in a private theater, noting that the director «captured his voice better than in other adaptations».
«In the Lost Lands» will be released in Ukrainian theaters on March 13.
