The Oblivion remaster weighs 120 GB and will be released without announcement on April 21, — dataminer

The rumors around the Oblivion remaster do not subside — the game can be released today and weighs in like a typical big project.

According to new leaks, the remaster of the legendary RPG may be released today — April 21. However, the updated version takes up as much as 120 GB, which is 22 times larger than the original game with all the DLC, which together weighed 5.52 GB.

It is the dataminer Kran27 is spreading rumors that the release is scheduled for today and that it’s supposedly only a matter of hours. His words coincide with a previous leak from Xbox tech support, where «mistakenly» stated the same date.

In addition, Kran27 refers to a page in SteamDBlinked to the game ID of Oblivion Remastered. It was created back on September 26, 2023, but remained empty until recently. Some users said they saw the game in their Steam library, but there is no confirmation of this.

Another interesting point is the work of 3D artist Mark Kirillov. In 2023, he posted a personal project: 3D models of potions and shaders in the style of Skyrim. All these models were made in Blender, ZBrush, Substance 3D, Marmoset Toolbag, and Unreal Engine 5. But now the fans are paying attention: Kirillov is a technical art director at Virtuos. This is the studio that is called the developer of the remaster. And although the project was presented as a «personal», many believe that these were early assemblies for the game itself.

Virtuos has experience in remasters and supporting large studios. They have already worked on the Metal Gear Solid 3: Delta update and patches for Cyberpunk 2077. According to rumors, Oblivion Remastered is being created from scratch on Unreal Engine 5 — so it’s not just about tightened graphics, but a significant update of the game engine.

Among the leaks, we found details about the gameplay. The remaster will supposedly update the combat system, add improved stealth, archery, and blocking mechanics. The animations should also be much smoother.

It is unknown how much the remaster will cost, but analysts expect a range from $49.99 to $69.99. The game is to be released on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5. According to rumors, it will be available on Game Pass from the first day.

However, we would still like to point out that Microsoft, Bethesda, and Virtuos are silent — neither confirmation nor denial. This is quite unusual, as companies usually respond to such rumors that have been circulating for months. As a result, fans have already found traces on SteamDB, compare screenshots with the original, unearthed probable asserts and predict the release date themselves. What will happen in reality remains to be seen.
