Universal Pictures unexpectedly showed the first look at Christopher Nolan’s next film and confirmed that Matt Damon will play Odysseus. The movie’s release date is also known.
Despite rumors about Tom Holland in the lead role, Damon will still be Odysseus. Apparently, this is a more or less traditional adaptation — at least Matt Damon is dressed in Greek armor. He is standing against a painted and rather shabby wall, which is a bit strange, because in antiquity, ancient buildings were not yet shabby.
As you might guess, the film in the antique setting is based on an epic poem by Homer. Written in the eighth century BC, «Odyssey» tells the story of Odysseus’ ten-year journey, during which he tries to return home after the Trojan War, facing trials, suffering, and mythical creatures.

There is no information on who the rest of the cast plays.
Filming on the movie, which will be released in IMAX, begins this month. Nolan is reuniting with «Interstellar», «Tenet» and «Oppenheimer» cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytem for the project. This is the third time Matt Damon has worked with the director, but it’s his first starring role with Nolan. The director himself wrote the script for «Odyssey», which will premiere on July 17, 2026.
