After a brief teaser three years ago, Obsidian showcased the gameplay trailer for The Outer Worlds 2 at the Game Awards 2024. The game is set to release in 2025 on Xbox X|S, PS5, on Steam, and Game Pass.

The Outer Worlds 2 was announced back in 2021 at the final E3 show ever. Not much was known about it—basically just that it retained the humor of its predecessor. In the new trailer, the voiceover tells fans to “get ready for an adventure that’s three times longer but almost certainly twice as big.”

In the official Xbox blog, new info about The Outer Worlds 2 popped up in true brand style. The devs promise “a whole new colony” and new factions with loads of side quests, a diverse crew with unique traits, and… RPG with RPG elements.

“A faction war among ‘benevolent rulers’ known as the Protectorate, a rebellious scientific religious order, and a corporate mega-power has torn the colony apart. Each trying to seal or control the breaches for their own monetary gains/benefits. Church, state, and capitalism! Who will win?! Well, that’s actually up to you. It’s your game.”

The trailer showed off fights and the landscapes of the game worlds, which are very similar in style to the first. Just, as Obsidian says, “more action, more weapons, and more… graphics?!”. Next year’s release means that in 2025, two major games from the company will hit the shelves—Avowed is coming in February.
