On the eve of the debut of the second season of «Andor», the first reactions of critics appeared online — and they were quite expectedly positive, given the success of the first season.
«Andor» — is a prequel series from the Star Wars universe that leads to the events of the movie «Rogue One. Star Wars. A» Story (2016), which tells the story of a group of rebels who steal plans to create weapons of mass destruction for the Empire. The protagonist of «Andor» is the eponymous character of Diego Luna — once a petty thief, and eventually a rebel hero.
In addition to Luna, the series stars Stellan Skashgård (Luten Rael), Genevieve O’Reilly (Mon Mothma), Denise Gough (Dedra Miro), Kyle Soller (Cyril Carn), Adrienne Archona (Bix Kalin), and others. Trailer of the second season also introduced newcomers: Ben Mendelsohn and Alan Tudyk, who reprise their roles as Imperial officer Orson Krennic and the reprogrammed Imperial droid K-2SO, respectively.
To summarize all the first reactions, the second season «Andor» — is nothing short of a triumph, and the standard against which all future Star Wars shows will be compared.
The first reactions, in fact, show that «Andor» in the second season adequately maintains its status as one of the best Star Wars series (although the competition is not great here, it should be noted), and moreover, — is on par with the best shows of the year in general.
The showrunner of the series is Tony Gilroy, who in a recent interview noted that «Andor» is his «by far the best work». Earlier, he also boldly stated that the show’s success could force Disney «to expand its horizons» and take on previously untouched concepts in the Star Wars universe — like horror movies or sitcoms.
The second season of the «Andor» series will debut on Disney+ tomorrow, April 22, and will consist of four chapters (3 episodes each), which will be released weekly for a month.
