Amazon is so confident in the success of the God of War series that it has ordered two seasons at once — according to writer and producer Ronald D. Moore, who will be in charge of the Kratos TV story.
«Right now I’m working on a video game adaptation called God of War, for which Amazon has ordered two seasons, and they asked me to come in, I’m literally in the writers’ room, and that’s my new thing,» Moore said on the Sackhoff Show (via Games Radar).
However, there is one thing that may alert fans — God of War’s showrunner is somewhat far from gaming, and the last time he played was in 1980. While working on the series, he tried to master the Santa Monica Studio’s action-adventure game, but gave it up because the fast-paced gameplay proved to be difficult for him.
«Controllers Now…. Press R1. Where, what R1, oh, I’m already dead! I can’t understand this»,” Moore says.
Ronald D. Moore — is a well-known television writer and producer who created the reboot of «Battlestar Galactica» and «For the Love of Mankind», and worked on dozens of episodes of «Star Trek: The Next Generation», «Star Trek: Voyager» and «Star Trek: Deep Space Nine».
At the same time, he is not the first showrunner to try to move the series beyond God of War. Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawke Ostby and Mark Fergus left the project in 2024 after the first scenarios had already been completed. Interestingly, the proposed stories allegedly received «high marks» from both Sony and Amazon — the studios simply decided to move in a slightly different direction.
The God of War franchise was launched with the first game in 2005. Currently, the action-adventure series has seven games created for four PlayStation consoles. About working on the series for the first time announced in December 2022 — the plot, according to the preliminary synopsis, was supposed to focus on the god of war Kratos, who, after the death of his wife, embarks on a dangerous journey with his son to scatter her ashes from the highest peak.
As a reminder, God of War will receive a free Ragnarök update and classic Kratos skins for the 20th anniversary, while the next game in the series, according to insiders, may will take place in Greece and will be a prequel to the story of Kratos.
