Голова AMD Ліза Су / AMD
AMD shares soared by 3700% since Lisa Su took over in 2014. By 2024, the company surpassed the value of its main competitor, and its processors became the most popular in the market.
Under Lisa Su’s leadership, AMD transformed from a company unable to turn a profit into one that leveraged Intel’s weaknesses to increase its market share. AMD’s market value exceeded that of its larger competitor, Intel. Now, AMD is targeting the artificial intelligence industry.
The company Su leads in 2024 is radically different from the one she took over 10 years ago. AMD released the popular Zen line of processors and established a stronghold in the cloud computing and data center market. AMD also brought other companies into its fold, most notably FPGA Xilinx.
In an interview with Time magazine as part of her nomination, Lisa Su was optimistic about competing with NVIDIA despite the latter’s near-monopoly on the AI market. Other competitors, like Amazon, are also developing their own chips, but Su sees these new developments as “opportunities”. She believes that custom processors will not replace AMD products. According to Su, major tech companies will rely on AMD’s specialized processors to ensure diversification.
Lisa Su’s tenure at AMD is accompanied by a sharp increase in stock value, allowing the company to surpass its larger competitor, Intel, in market capitalization. Since October 2014, AMD’s stock has risen nearly 3700%, despite a 37% drop after this year’s March peak. The rise in stock value was accompanied by increases in revenue and profitability. The company continues to erode Intel’s market share.
AMD’s revenue for the fiscal year 2014 was $5.5 billion. Sales in just the third quarter of 2024 amounted to $6.8 billion — in the last quarter, the company earned more revenue than in the first year of Su’s leadership. AMD enters 2025 with a strategic restructuring that led to the layoff of 4% of employees in November.
