Shawn Levy, director of «Stranger Things» and this year’s hit movie «Deadpool and Wolverine», is working with Netflix on a series that will adapt the popular board game «Dungeons & Dragons».
According to VarietyThe Forgotten Realms, the tentative title of the series is — «The Forgotten Realms» / The Forgotten Realms (after the most famous D&D setting). The script for the project will be written by Drew Crevello, who previously worked on the development of the same, but canceled, project for Paramount+, while Sean Levy will serve as executive producer.
Levy, in addition to having directed hit «Deadpool and Wolverine»also known as one of the main directors of the series «Stranger Things»which also contains a lot of references to Dungeons & Dragons (The game also includes two main villains — Demagorgon and Vekna).
«Dungeons & Dragons» was created in 1974 by E. Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson and is now considered one of the most influential board games of all time. Players create characters from a large list of fantasy races such as elves, orcs, and dwarves and engage in complex role-playing campaigns across a wide range of settings and stories.
Previous adaptations of Dungeons & Dragons include an animated series from the 1980s and a series of live-action films released since 2000. One of the most recent adaptations — «Dungeons and Dragons: Honor of Thieves» starring Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez raised more than $205 million worldwide and received high praise from critics and audiences (above 90% on Rotten Tomatoes).
As for the series «Stranger Things», it is set to debut this year with its fifth and final season. We still haven’t seen the trailer, but we already have some interesting shots from the filming and a lot of promises from the creators and actors about the epic ending of the story.
