Google announced the release of the new ChromeOS M13, which includes the handy Safety reset feature. This allows Chromebook users to reset their laptops to standard settings without a full wipe. The update also introduced a new accessibility option Flash notifications to assist those who may have difficulty hearing or seeing notifications.
Like Powerwash in ChromeOS, the Safety reset feature will clean up the system if you encounter behavior similar to a computer virus, such as unusual pop-ups. But unlike Powerwash, which is a full reset to factory settings, Safety reset preserves local data and apps, as well as things like bookmarks and saved passwords.
Google writes that users can trigger the Safety reset dialog directly by pressing CTRL + Shift + Search + R. Otherwise, you can find this function in the Safety and privacy settings menu or by searching in Settings or the Launcher using keywords such as “Popup,” “Spam,” or “Virus.”
Regarding the new Flash notifications setting, it’s available in the accessibility settings in the Audio and captions section. This feature provides an additional visual indicator for notifications to those who might miss them due to hearing impairments or using screen magnification for reading content. Users can choose the flash color from several options, and a preview button lets you see what it looks like.
