Tom Cruise is returning to auteur cinema with a new film by Alejandro G. Iñárritu. The Mexican director is known for the film “The Revenant” starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

The new film is set to release on October 2, 2026, and it’s still untitled. But Warner Bros. has revealed some plot details:

“The most powerful man in the world embarks on a wild mission to prove he is the savior of humanity, before the catastrophe he unleashed destroys everything.”

The project is a collaboration between Alejandro González Iñárritu and his “Birdman” co-writers Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolas Giacobone, along with scriptwriter Sabina Berman. Cruise leads a cast that includes Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, and Riz Ahmed.

Additionally, Warner Bros. has shifted a number of films. “Batman 2”, previously set for an October 2, 2026 release, is now expected on October 1, 2027. “Mickey 17” by “Parasites” director Bong Joon-ho is moving from April 18, 2025, to March 7, 2025, and Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” is swapping places with it — from March 7 to April 18, 2025.

“Mickey 17” starring Robert Pattinson is about a hero used as expendable material. He’s repeatedly sent on dangerous missions on an icy planet where he is killed many times. However, one time he survives a mission and meets the last iteration of himself. The film, based on the book “Mickey7” by Edward Ashton, also stars Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, and Naomi Ackie.

In Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners”, based on his own screenplay, it’s about twin brothers (both played by Michael B. Jordan). They return to their hometown, New Orleans, to start over but find even greater evil awaiting them at home. The film also features Hailee Steinfeld, Delroy Lindo, and Jack O’Connell.
