The explosion that took place almost two years ago claimed the lives of five passengers and crew of the OceanGate submarine, and now the US government has released chilling audio of its final moments, captured by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
The recording was made using a passive acoustic recorder located about 1400 km from the place where the «Titan» met its demise. The NOAA network consists of a total of 13 passive acoustic monitoring points in the northeastern continental United States, and the standard statistics of one of these was disturbed by the «acoustic sign of the explosion of», just on the day that «Titan» disappeared on June 18, 2023.
It is worth reminding that on board the submarine at the time were OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, who was in charge of the «Titan»; deep sea explorer Paul-Henri Narguet; British tycoon Hamish Harding; and Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleiman. Contact with the passengers and crew was lost two hours after the dive started, after which an emergency search was launched.
The audio recording released on Tuesday is one of the pieces of evidence in the investigation into the «Titan» tragedy, where the main cause was called a sudden «implosion» of the vessel caused by enormous pressure.
The wreckage of the submarine has already been found, as have the remains of the crew.
