Volkswagen has released an updated version of the Volkswagen ID.3 electric vehicle. The 2025 version has received some changes to the interior and exterior design, as well as a new lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery. Previously, the Volkswagen ID.3 was equipped exclusively with an NMC (nickel-manganese-cobalt) battery, but now for the first time, a version with an LFP battery has entered the market.

Technical specifications of the Volkswagen ID.3 2025

The LFP battery supplied by CATL has a capacity of 53.6 kWh and provides a range of 451 km according to the CLTC standard. Fast DC charging from 30% to 80% takes approximately 48 minutes. This is not that fast, but it is worth considering that this is an affordable car, not a flagship.

The engine remains unchanged. The 125 kW (170 hp) electric motor is mounted on the rear axle and has a peak torque of 310 N-m. Average energy consumption is 13.4 kWh per 100 km.

Design and changes

The exterior has been updated slightly: the design of the wheel rims remains unchanged, with 18 and 20-inch versions available. The front pillar is now partially painted black. Two new body colors have been added: beige and light blue.

The biggest updates have been made to the interior. The center screen of the multimedia system has grown from 10 inches to 12.9 inches, while the digital instrument cluster remains 5.3 inches. The screen now has thinner bezels and has lost the bottom panel with physical buttons. Although previously Volkswagen announced plans to use physical controls more activelySAIC-VW is engaged in production in China. The center console has undergone changes: a platform for wireless charging of smartphones and two cup holders have been added. Overall, the interior looks more premium.

Alternative version with NMC battery

Volkswagen also offers an ID.3 version with an NMC battery at the same starting price. The capacity of this battery is slightly lower – 52.8 kWh, but the range is almost identical – 450 km. The main difference is faster charging: DC charging from 30% to 80% takes 42 minutes, while the LFP version takes 48 minutes. AC charging takes 8.5 hours versus 9.5 hours for the LFP version.

The new Volkswagen ID.3 2025 is offered in China at a price ranging from $16,500 for the basic equipment to $18,800 for the top version.

We would like to add that recently production of the Volkswagen ID.4 2025 has begunwith a price starting at $45 thousand.
