«Дюна 2» / Legendary
Even though “Dune 3” (“Dune: Messiah”) hasn’t even started shooting, Warner Bros. and Legendary are already working on a fourth film—according to an industry insider report by Daniel Richtman.
Previously, Denis Villeneuve, the director of the first two installments, mentioned that the third film would be his final in the series, although it would “leave lines open for continuation by other creators,” which reportedly quite annoyed him, as per Jordan Ruimy from World of Reel.
Moreover, it seems there’s also a spin-off series in the “Dune” universe in the works. Currently, HBO is airing “Dune: Prophecy”—and although it hasn’t received acclaim like Villeneuve’s films, it’s still considered quite successful.
“Dune: Messiah” will be the first instance where the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s narratives goes beyond the first novel “Dune”. The shooting is expected to start in August/September next year, with all main actors returning—Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Florence Pugh. Villeneuve also officially confirmed the appearance of Anya Taylor-Joy, who briefly appeared in the second part as Paul’s adult sister.
Note that the first “Dune” earned over $400 million worldwide, while the second nearly doubled those earnings to $714 million, maintaining its status as the highest-grossing film of 2024 for several months .
The series “Dune: Prophecy” debuted this autumn on HBO and tells the story set 10,000 years before the rise of Paul Atreides and the formation of the mystical order of Bene Gesserit with Valya Harkonnen (Emily Watson) at the helm. The show has now been officially renewed for a second season.
