We have waited! Sony has begun to issue compensation for the PSN — crash only to PlayStation Plus subscribers, but «generous»

Sony has started paying compensation to PlayStation Plus for the PlayStation Network failure — it took almost a month to do so.

In early February, PSN suddenly «dropped» for almost a day which left users unable to access online games, buy new titles, or check their libraries. Sony has now begun automatically adding five days of free PS Plus to anyone affected by the recent outage.

In February, Sony explained that it was an operational failure of network services, but did not disclose specific details. Players have been demanding at least some kind of compensation since then — and now it’s finally here. However, there are no bonuses for waiting for these five free days for almost a month.

To make sure you’ve received compensation, there are a few steps to take. Sony doesn’t send out separate notifications about this, so you’ll have to check manually:

  • You need to go to the PlayStation Store
  • Go to the tab «Manage subscriptions»
  • Check the date of the next payment – if it has moved forward by 5 days, the compensation is added automatically

If a user has had a break in their PS Plus subscription and did not have an active subscription at the time of the outage, they will not be compensated in the form of bonus days. Sony will only provide additional days to users who had an active subscription at the time of the outage.

It is worth noting that the previous outage occurred last year on September 30, and Sony provided the same compensation to all affected users. Incidents «highlight» the problem of reliability of online services and libraries, as well as the risk of data loss or deletion of entire repositories by the publisher. Also at the end of 2024, there was an incident when PlayStation Network user accounts were unexpectedly blocked forever.
