Social media has noticed that Windows 11 requires you to sign in to your Microsoft account to use Notepad. Despite the outrage, users are forced to do so under one condition.
The user @TheBobPony shared a screenshot of Windows 11 requiring authorization to use the regular Notepad. His post caused a negative reaction, as many people thought that Microsoft was forcing authorization even in basic programs. But you need to pay attention to the pop-up window’s message: «Sign in with your Microsoft account to use Rewrite and its features in Notepad».
It turns out that it’s all about the new Rewrite function, which is exclusive to Copilot+ PCs. If you want to use the new AI features — you need to log in to your account which may be charged, as it turns out, even for AI to edit text in Notepad.
The basic functionality of Notepad remains unchanged, and users can use it without logging into a Microsoft account. Nevertheless, the integration of AI into basic operating system programs raises questions about its feasibility.
Microsoft continues to test Copilot for Windows 11 as a replacement for the web version, which still opens the site. Native Copilot is 95% web-based and is actually a website in a window with a smaller frame Recent update Windows 11 has raised a lot of questions about broken Bluetooth, headphones, webcams, etc. Perhaps we’ll get some interesting bugs (or not) when Microsoft will improve «Conductor», refresh the taskbar and much more.
