Now we know who to thank for «John Wick».

It’s been 10 years since the first film in the «John Wick» franchise was released, launching another cult action movie series starring Keanu Reeves. Since then, the franchise has grossed $1 billion at the global box office across four films. However, it turns out that this success would not have been possible without Eva Longoria.

According to directors Chad Stagelski and David Leitch, a week before filming began, there was a funding problem — investors were unable to provide almost $6 million in time. The filmmakers and Keanu Reeves had already invested their own money in the project, and producer Basil Ivanick even used the limit on three personal credit cards.

In a desperate attempt to save the project, CAA offered some of its actors the opportunity to invest in the movie. Eva Longoria responded to this offer and provided the necessary $6 million, just 24 hours before the creators would have had to close the project.

Later, the directors invited Eva Longoria to lunch to thank her for saving «John Wick». The actress admitted that at first she did not believe in the success of the film, but later called this investment «the best money» she had ever spent.

David Leitch noted that Eva Longoria would like to play in one of John Wick’s «sequels» and try her hand at the action genre. The director would love to work with her and is looking for an opportunity to do so.

The «John Wick» series of films tells the story of a former hit man who returns to the dangerous world of criminal justice. The franchise is known for its spectacular fight scenes, unique style, and special mythology of the underground world of mercenaries.

In early 2025, a «John Wick» spinoff titled «Ballerina» starring Ana De Armas. The other day, director Chad Stagelski said that he was working on an anime that will investigate Keanu Reeves’ character’s past as a professional killer.
