Xiaomi is actively working on its second electric car and preparing for its launch. Although we had official photos, there was very little information about its characteristics. This gap was filled by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT), which managed to extract some characteristics of the Xiaomi YU7 from the documentation.
The YU7 is expected to hit the market in June or July of this year, offering both rear- and all-wheel drive configurations. The all-wheel-drive version of the Xiaomi YU7 has an impressive performance, with the front electric motor delivering up to 220 kW (approximately 295 hp), while the rear motor adds 288 kW (approximately 386 hp). These engines are combined with triple lithium battery packs. The car has a top speed of 253 km/h.
Perhaps the most interesting are the three different CLTC (China Light-duty Vehicle Test Cycle) range options for the all-wheel drive model released by MIIT: 750 km, 760 km, and 670 km. There will likely be three versions of the all-wheel drive electric vehicle. The all-wheel drive version has a curb weight of 2405 kg. The weight of the rear-wheel drive version is not specified.
The rear-wheel-drive model is expected to use a rear electric motor with a maximum output of 235 kW (approximately 315 hp), combined with lithium-iron-phosphate battery packs. The projected top speed of the rear-wheel drive version is 240 km/h.
Xiaomi YU7 is 4999 mm long, 1996 mm wide and 1600 mm high, with a wheelbase of 3000 mm. Spy photos suggest that Xiaomi may offer the YU7 in several trim levels, including Standard, Pro, and Max. Recent spy photos have revealed the presence of a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, indicating that the YU7 will use Xiaomi’s own ADAS system. Interior photos showed an ultra-wide screen in the cockpit.
The launch of the YU7 follows the success of its sister model, the Xiaomi SU7. In January, the SU7 reached shipments of over 20 thousand units for the fourth consecutive month. Xiaomi is also expanding its retail presence, adding 16 stores last month, bringing its total to 216 stores in 64 cities across China.
The introduction of the YU7 should help Xiaomi to further increase its sales figures. The company has set an ambitious annual delivery target of 300 thousand vehicles in 2025, and the YU7 will be responsible for a significant portion of that number. The expected starting price of the Xiaomi YU7 is about 250 thousand yuan (approximately €31100).
