YouTube is testing voice responses to comments from content creators

Published by Vadym Karpus

Next time you drop a comment on a YouTube video, you might just hear the creator hit you back with a voice reply. YouTube has announced it’s testing this feature with a “small number” of creators. It lets them record an audio response to comments on their videos.

YouTube hopes this experiment will “foster more meaningful connections between creators and their audience.” Creators in the test group can use the new feature by clicking on a sound wave icon when replying to a comment. Then they need to hit record a voice reply and publish it as usual. After that, other users can interact with these responses just like with regular text comments.

For now, creators in the test group can only create voice replies on the mobile app for iOS and only on their own videos. Playback of voice replies seems to be limited to mobile devices at the moment. Journalists at The Verge couldn’t listen to a voice reply from YouTuber ThioJoe on a Mac browser, but it was playable on the YouTube app on iPhone 15 Pro and Pixel 6.
