An interesting scheme of distribution of NVIDIA RTX 5090 and 5080 among players. The company is introducing a system of priority access to video cards among the audience of its Discord channel.
Video card manufacturer said about their initiative on Reddit. The buyer must be a member of the server Zotac Gaming Discord and actively participate in discussions and other community activities — i.e. a real active user. The company declares zero tolerance for speculators: «all serial numbers are recorded to track and verify purchases». Although Zotac cannot practically prevent resale, anyone caught doing so will be excluded from future drawings.
The company notes that this is not a free video card giveaway, but rather a fair opportunity to purchase. The winners will be chosen by a random number generator, but the offer is only valid for US users.
However, Zotac’s offer will not provide video cards to everyone. Currently, the company is only giving away five RTX 5080 AMP Extreme Infinity and five RTX 5080 Solid OC cards. The company does not currently have RTX 5090 in stock, so you will have to wait from several weeks to several months to buy the flagship.
New users of the Zotac Gaming Discord have already caused a frenzy of activity to get a chance to purchase the video card. However, one of the «veterans of the» channel says that Zotac understands this and has created a new channel specifically for such users, which will have a separate giveaway with a higher chance of winning.
Given the limited number and audience, the raffle can be considered symbolic, but users have been well-received by the company’s efforts. We have repeatedly written about queues waiting for video cards to be sold NVIDIA RTX 50, which sometimes even ended in a scuffle. Some stores openly postponed the sale of video cards until the summer, and manufacturers significantly increased their official value. At the same time the first video cards have already failed after updating the drivers.
