Apple showed four iPhone 16s with A18 chip (and new buttons), Apple Watch Series 10, and AirPods 4 — highlights from the presentation

Today, Apple’s traditional fall presentation took place, where they showed new iPhone models, the anniversary version of the Apple Watch Series 10, and a pair of new headphones — along with the announcement of a number of interesting artificial intelligence features (which are unlikely to appear in our region in the near future).

• New iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus have a design with a vertical camera arrangement on the back and a palette of 5 colors: ultramarine, turquoise, pink, white and black. The standard iPhone will have a 6.1″ screen, while the larger iPhone 16 Plus will have a 6.7″ screen. The main technological achievement of the new iPhones is the 3nm A18 processor (30% faster than the previous model). The camera system has undergone significant updates: it now includes a 48-megapixel Fusion camera with 2x telephoto lens and a new 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. Prices for the models start at $799 for the iPhone 16 (128 GB) and $899 for the iPhone 16 Plus (128 GB).
• iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max received larger displays (with a screen diagonal of 6.3 and 6.9 inches), a more powerful 3nm A18 Pro processor and an improved camera + Apple Intelligence. Apple promises 17% more memory bandwidth, 20% higher 6-core GPU performance, and 15% higher 6-core CPU performance than the A17 Pro processor. The cameras include the main 48-megapixel Fusion Camera module with OIS, a new 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle module with autofocus, and a 12-megapixel telephoto module with 5x zoom. The iPhone 16 line also received a new Camera Control button. The iPhone 16 Pro (128 GB) is priced at $999, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max (256 GB) starts at $1199.
• Apple Watch Series 10 has a larger and brighter OLED display with a thinner and lighter body and new health features. The watch has a polished aluminum case and a new metal back that integrates various smartwatch antennas; Apple also offered a titanium case version instead of the stainless steel model. The device contains a larger charging coil, which ensures faster charging (the Series 10 battery can be charged to 80% in just 30 minutes). The price of Apple Watch Series 10 starts at $399 for the GPS version, while the model with cellular support costs $499.
• Updated Apple Watch Ultra 2 has received a new «satin black» color and sleep apnea detection features. The Milanese Loop titanium bracelet is made of corrosion-resistant material, making it suitable for scuba diving enthusiasts. At the same time, watchOS 11 brings with it an update to Smart Stack — the widgets that appear when you turn the Digital Crown and which will now display real-time activity. The device is available for pre-order for $799.
• Two models of AirPods 4: the basic version of the AirPods 4 has shorter legs and improved sound quality, while maintaining an open design with no replaceable tips, while the premium version — Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), which was previously available only in Pro models (both AirPods 4 models now come with a USB-C charging case, reflecting Apple’s overall transition away from the Lightning connector). The price for the new AirPods 4 models starts at $129 for the standard version and $179 for the model with active noise cancellation.
• Updated AirPods MaxThe main change was the replacement of the Lightning connector with USB-C for physical connection and charging. The design of the headphones remained almost identical to the original version, retaining the aluminum and steel construction. However, Apple has introduced a new color palette for AirPods Max, expanding the personalization options for users. AirPods Max will go on sale for $549.
• Release date for iOS 18, iPad OS 18 and the new MacOS — September 16.
• Apple Intelligence features will start working only in the beta version of iOS 18.1, starting in October. Users from the United States will be the first to receive them, while support for English dialects in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, etc. will be added in December. Starting in 2025, Apple Intelligence features will be launched in Chinese, French, Spanish, and Japanese (there was no mention of the Ukrainian language or at least our region).
