Along with the warmth, the first month of spring brought us a bunch of different premieres. Lady Gaga made a splash with her long-awaited album Mayhem, former K-pop band Blackpink’s Jenny Kim released her debut album, and metal dinosaurs Lacrimosa and Destruction finally pleased fans with new and interesting works. Read more about the best music releases of March, according to our taste, in the article below.

Lady Gaga — Mayhem

Genre: electropop, disco
Release date: March 7
Number of tracks: 14
Where to listen: Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music

Lady Gaga returns to the top of the global charts with her seventh and possibly the best album to date, Mayhem. Following the not-so-successful Chromatica (2020) and her role in the failed «Joker» sequel, it was a chance for the star to rehabilitate herself and finally assert her title as the queen of pop.

The title alludes to the eclectic nature of the project, which mixes wobbly tempos, powerful synths, and stadium choruses with 1970s disco motifs to end with three romantic ballads in a row. In Gaga’s own words, it’s a «kaleidoscopic» reimagining of her discography that combines old and new perspectives.

Two weeks after the release of Mayhem led Billboard magazine’s list of 200 best albums. And his latest composition, the popular single Die with a Smile, which Lady Gaga recorded with Bruno Mars, is currently at number one on the global TOP 50 by Spotify.

Lacrimosa — Lament

Genre: darkwave, gothic metal
Release date: March 7
Number of tracks: 10
Where to listen: Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music

After the joyful diversity of Mayhem, we offer you to plunge into a real sea of sadness with the melancholic Swiss goths Lacrimosa. On March 7, the legendary duo, which was one of the first to combine darkwave with symphonic metal, released their 15th studio album Lament.

Exploring the themes of death, loss, and heartache, it is the final part of a trilogy that includes the band’s previous works — Testimonium and Leidenschaft. Music lovers looking for emotions between gothic and metal guitar riffs will surely appreciate this dark ode to loneliness and unrequited love.

The dreamy, contemplative, and multi-layered soundtrack of One More Trip Around The Sun evokes a strange mood. Like some kind of musical psychedelic, it allows thoughts to float freely on the river of consciousness. It’s a good opportunity to feel the fluidity of life, which melts away every moment while it lasts «one more trip around the Sun».

Destruction — Birth of Malice

Genre: thrash metal
Release date: March 7
Number of tracks: 12
Where to listen: Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music

One of the pioneers of German heavy metal, the thrash metal band Destruction was formed in 1983. This is the 16th album by the band, which for more than forty years has not yielded to its signature style. Michael Sifringer’s guitar riffs are still fast, Mark Schirmer’s vocals are just as powerful, and the cover artwork in 2025 is no less thrashy than it was in the early 1990s!

Jennie — Ruby

Genre: K-pop, hip-hop
Release date: March 7
Number of tracks: 15
Where to listen: Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music

The debut solo album of the former member of K-pop band Blackpink, South Korean singer Jenny Kim, has sold over a million copies. This is her first release since leaving YG Entertainment and Interscope Records in 2023 to found her own label, OddAtelier.

Despite fears that Ruby would become a set of clichéd pop songs, Jenny’s new work easily proved her versatility and courage in choosing styles. Speaking of courage. The singer was not afraid to invite a number of world stars to her first album, whose brilliance can outshine any performer.

First of all, it’s the American rapper Doechii, who took part in the song ExtraL. In addition to her, the album features actor and singer Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino), singer and songwriter Kali Uchis, popular rapper Dominic Fike, and British pop queen Dua Lipa.

Playboi Carti — Music

Genre: hip-hop, trap
Release date: March 14
Number of tracks: 30
Where to listen: Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple MusicThe third studio album by American rapper Jordan Terrell Carter, known as Playboi Carti, instantly flew to the top of the Billboard 200, displacing Lady Gaga from the top spot. Reviewer The Guardian calls it the most anticipated rap album of the decade, which brought Carti tremendous popularity and demonstrated his almost mystical level of vocal range.

Among the 30 tracks on Music, the Atlanta rapper’s creative pursuits really had room to roam. He skillfully changes the rhythm: from classic trap to a psychological sample in Philly, soul in Backd00r, and rhythm and blues in We Need All Da Vibes. In addition, he constantly experiments with diction, from low narcotic mantras to high-pitched babbling or hoarse shouts.

The Horrors — Night Life

Genre: gothic rock, post-punk
Release date: March 21
Number of tracks: 9
Where to listen: Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple MusicOn March 26, the veterans of the gothic scene, the British band The Horrors, released their sixth studio album, Night Life. Over the twenty years of their existence, the band has changed several directions: from youth post-punk to shoegazing, psychedelic, and industrial. And now they’re returning to their gothic roots with a new lineup and a new sound.

A journey into the depths of insomnia, melancholy and the darkest night opens with «Ariel», named after the guardian angel who guides us from birth to death. It’s five minutes of anxious restlessness that gradually builds until it explodes into a veritable storm of pulsing drumsIt seems that the following tracks can no longer reach such heights.

But then comes the fear-inducing «Silent Sister». And after it, «The Silence That Remains» with claustrophobic vibes of expectation and an eerie mechanical grinding sound reminiscent of a malfunctioning breathing machineI admit that at the time of my first listen, I did not know the background of this composition.

It turns out that it is a reflection of a real incident when the Palestinian father of The Horrors’ vocalist Faris Bedwan had a heart attack and then there was no news from him for many days. It’s incredible how the vivid expressiveness of The Horrors’ music paints a whole story in the imagination and replaces thousands of words.

Selena Gomez & Benny Blanco — I Said I Love You First

Where to listen: Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple MusicAbout their first album together, singer and actress Selena Gomez and producer Benny Blanco announced on the eve of Valentine’s Day. On the same day, the couple shared his first single, Scared of Loving You.

Cradle Of Filth — The Screaming Of The Valkyries

Genre: extreme gothic metal, symphonic metal, black metal
Release date: March 21
Number of tracks: 9
Where to listen: Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music

It’s almost unbelievable, but in 34 years of creativity, the British metal band has not yet released something that critics could criticize with a clear conscience. «Scream of the Valkyries» is Cradle Of Filth’s 14th studio album and continues to delight fans of symphonic black metal with its signature combination of heaviness, eerie theatrics, and gothic atmosphere.

In the TOP 20 metal albums of 2025 by metalstorm The Screaming Of The Valkyries takes the top spot. Fans praise the guitar solos, melodic compositions and masterful references to Iron Maiden’s creative heritage. And I personally agree that from the third song White Hellebore with its incendiary chorus to the climactic When Misery Was A Stranger with great guitars and angelic vocals of Zoe Federoff, the album is almost flawless.

Telema — «Proydysvit»

Genre: metalcore
Release date: March 21
Number of tracks: 9
Where to listen: Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music

Now the holiday has come to the street of fans of the Ukrainian-language metal scene. «Proydysvit» — is a concept album by the Ivano-Frankivsk-based metalcore band Telema. In contrast to bands that use lyrics only as a kind of supplement to their music, Telema puts storytelling in the forefront.

Thanks to this, all nine compositions of «Proydysvit» have a clear storyline and tell a coherent story of the anti-hero, gradually revealing his character and making us think again about the eternal questions of choice, responsibility, karma. Ultimately, the meaning of our existence.

Slukhay Sashu — «Vypadkovi» (EP)

Genre: etno-house, garage, tribal
Release date: March 21
Number of tracks: 3
Where to listen: Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music

In a striking contrast to her previous band, we present the new EP «Vypadkovi» by Ukrainian singer and songwriter Oleksandra Honcharuk. Its three tracks immerse the listener in the story of a complex relationship: from a chance meeting to love and painful breakupMusically, Oleksandra’s latest work resembles a colorful collection of styles and moods.

The artist herself says that «collected most of the sounds like beads of». Perhaps it is precisely because of their intricate harmony that the album reminds us of gentle rays in the crowns of trees blooming in spring and leaves a taste of light melancholy.

The Darkness — Dreams On Toast

Genre: glam, hard rock
Release date: March 28
Number of tracks: 10
Where to listen: Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music

The viral video of Taylor Swift and her boyfriend fervently sing along songs I Believe In A Thing Called Love by the British hardcore band The Darkness, instantly propelled the forgotten hit to the top of the rock charts. After that, it was only a matter of time before their new album was released. And to the fans’ delight, it was released on March 28, 2025.

Oldies will appreciate this fun cocktail of pure heavy metal splendor, Queen-esque rock opera, and folk ballads. In the song I Hate Myself, Justin Hawkins’ humorous vocal exercises and vintage synthesizers reminded me of the nostalgic prog rock motifs of Electric Light Orchestra. And the very next song, Hot On My Tail, plunged me into country music. The rest of the album continues this wonderful tradition, wandering through different styles from 1970s pop to jangly metal accents and slow stoner rock.
