A hybrid that an electric car would envy: Zeekr 9X travels over 380 km on electric power

While Tesla is treading water and releases new models every few years, Chinese manufacturers are churning out new products almost every week. Just last week, we talked about a new Zeekr 007 GT electric station wagon. And today, the Chinese brand has announced a new crossover with a hybrid powertrain – Zeekr 9X.

The Zeekr 9X is the first hybrid crossover in the brand’s lineup. This car actually blurs the line between a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and a battery electric vehicle (BEV) thanks to its impressive range. The company said that the Zeekr 9X’s powertrain combines the benefits of BEVs and PHEVs to offer breakthrough innovations in performance, efficiency, and overall driving experience.

The Zeekr 9X is powered by CATL’s Freevoy Battery and offers a pure electric range of more than 380 km, the longest of any hybrid crossover in the world, according to Zeekr.

CATL introduced the Freevoy battery for hybrids in October 2024. It provides more than 400 km of range and supports 4C fast charging, enabling hybrids to provide an experience similar to all-electric cars.

The 2.0T hybrid engine has a power output of 205 kW. The Zeekr 9X can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3 seconds. The car has an air suspension with a two-chamber design and active stabilizers, which is designed to provide comfort and maneuverability.

The car is also equipped with the latest G-Pilot H9 autopilot system, which has two Nvidia Thor chips with 1400 TOPS processing power. The crossover also carries 5 LiDAR sensors for advanced L3 autonomous driving capabilities.

The global launch of the Zeekr 9X is scheduled for the third quarter of 2025, when ultra-fast V4 charging stations with a maximum capacity of up to 1.3 MW will be put into operation. The price of the car has not yet been announced.
