AMD CEO Lisa Su signs the world’s first mini-PC with Ryzen AI Max+ 395 ─ it outperforms 3x RTX 5080 in AI

China’s GMKTec has announced the EVO-X2, which it calls «the world’s first AI mini-PC equipped with a AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395». The device was unveiled during the AMD Greater China Channel Summit event, which was attended by top «red team» executives, including AMD CEO Lisa Su and Senior Vice President and General Manager Jack Huynh. GMKTec even got Lisa Su’s autograph on one (or more) of the new EVO-X2 mini-PCs, and sources hint at a Signature Edition with her signature.

So far, GMKTec has not published the full specifications of the EVO-X2, so we have to rely on some details. It is known that the compact desktop device is equipped with an AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor, and according to GMKTec, its performance in DeepSeek R1 benchmarks is more than three times higher than that of the RTX 5080 desktop graphics card.

Let us remind you of the characteristics of the AMD Strix Halo APU:

  • Architecture of Zen 5 computing cores;
  • 16 computing cores and 32 threads (two CCDs);
  • The maximum frequency is 5.1 GHz;
  • Built-in Radeon 8060S graphics based on RDNA 3.5 with 40 processing units;
  • XDNA2 NPU with 50 TOPS performance;
  • 80 MB of cache;
  • Supports up to 128 GB LPDDR5X-8533 (256-bit).

Design

The GMKTec EVO-X2 looks quite large for a mini-PC. In the photo with Jack Hewin, you can see the Geekom mini-PC (which resembles a classic 4×4 NUC). In comparison, the EVO-X2 measures approximately 5×4.5 inches and is thicker.

GMKTec has released images of the new product. It shows the design of the device and available interfaces. The front panel features a power button, an SD card slot, a USB-C (Thunderbolt) port, two USB-A ports, and an audio jack. The rear panel features three USB-A ports, another USB-C (Thunderbolt) port, HDMI, DisplayPort, RJ45 network port, another audio jack, and a power connector.

Enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the Strix Halo APU, and GMKTec can get ahead of giants like HP and Framework if it manages to release the EVO-X2 early. HP Z2 Mini G1a is due in the spring, and Framework Desktop with Ryzen AI Max is not expected until the third quarter of 2025 Asus ROG Flow Z13 with AMD Strix Halo was supposed to be released in February, but is still stuck at the pre-order stage.

It is not yet clear how many copies signed by Lisa Su will be available, but it will definitely attract collectors.
