AMD Ryzen AI MAX (Strix Halo): powerful APUs with Zen 5 and RDNA 3.5 for mobile systems

After months of leaks, AMD has finally officially announced the highly anticipated Strix Halo series APUs, branded as Ryzen AI MAX. These chips combine the latest computing cores based on the Zen 5 architecture with integrated graphics based on the RDNA3.5 architecture, which can outperform most modern budget GPUs. It is reported by the resource Videocardz with reference to AMD.

The Ryzen AI MAX series will be released in two versions: A PRO version for business laptops and workstations, and a consumer version. Both variants will have configurations of up to 16 Zen 5 cores and up to 40 RDNA 3.5 compute units.

The flagship model, Ryzen AI MAX+ (PRO) 395, has 16 cores with clock speeds up to 5.1 GHz. This APU also includes 80 MB of cache and 40 graphics cores. The second tier model, the Ryzen AI MAX (PRO) 390 (without «+»), has 12 cores, clock speeds up to 5.0 GHz, 76 MB of cache, and 32 graphics cores.

For gaming-oriented systems, the Ryzen AI MAX (PRO) 385 model may be the most attractive. It offers 8 computing cores and 32 graphics cores. Finally, the Ryzen AI MAX PRO 380 (without a consumer variant) is equipped with 6 computing cores and 16 graphics cores.

Features of Ryzen AI MAX

  • Ryzen AI MAX+ (PRO) 395: 16 CPU cores, 40 graphics cores, 45-120 W
  • Ryzen AI MAX (PRO) 390: 12 CPU cores, 32 graphics cores, 45-120 W
  • Ryzen AI MAX (PRO) 385: 8 CPU cores, 32 graphics cores, 45-120 W
  • Ryzen AI MAX PRO 380: 6 CPU cores, 16 graphics cores, 45-120 W

The Halo series is designed for flagship systems called Copilot+ PCs. Systems with Ryzen AI MAX will be positioned as even more premium than the Ryzen AI 9 (Strix Halo) and Ryzen AI 7/5 (Kraken) models.
