DC Studios showed five minutes of «Superman» — Clarke Knocked Out, Crypto the dog, Fortress of Solitude, and a little sun treatment.
The excerpt was first shown behind closed doors at CinemaCon, and now it’s finally online. This is an extended version of the same of the video, which was already shown in, December but there are more details here. It’s still unknown who exactly slapped Superman’s neck, but at least we can see how he regains consciousness afterward. His awakening is very far from «heavenly pleasure».
The scene begins with Clark simply falling from the sky: beaten, exhausted, and barely moving. And soon the dog Crypto appears who rejoices, jumps, and plays until he realizes that something is wrong with his master. The crypto-dog begins to drag him to the place where he is waiting for salvation — the Fortress of Solitude.
This is the first full look at the fortress in James Gunn’s version. And it looks epic, made of crystals, with automatons inside that instantly scan Superman’s condition. They start treating him with rays that look like concentrated sunlight. It all looks very much in the spirit of classic comics.
In the trailer, you can again see familiar moments from the teaser, but now they have added several new lines and scenes. For example, when Superman, still barely able to stand, tries to tell Krypto that he needs help. Or how Krypto — cheerful and loyal — does his job with an A+.
«Superman» will be the first big movie DCU to officially launch the new James Gunn universe, after the start of the animated series «Monsters Commando». David Corentyne, known for his classic comic book character, will play the lead role, and Rachel Brosnahan will play Lois Lane. The main antagonist, Lex Luthor will be played by Nicholas Hoult.
Although the plot of the film is still being kept secret, it is already clear: Gunn is relying heavily on the spirit of comic books. It looks like we can expect a little humor, a little drama, and respect for the original. The premiere of «Superman» is scheduled for August 1.
