Netflix has released the first footage from «Thursday Night Murder Club» —, the 2020 adaptation of Richard Osmond’s bestselling novel by «Home Alone» director Chris Columbus.
«Four restless retirees Elizabeth, Ron, Ibrahim and Joyce spend their time investigating unsolved murder cases for fun. When they stumble upon one unexplained death, their laid-back work takes a thrilling turn», — from the official synopsis.
The film stars Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie. Also among the cast: Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Tom Ellis, Jonathan Pryce, David Tennant, Paul Freeman, Jeff Bell, Ingrid Oliver and Richard E. Grant.

Mirren in an interview saidShe said that she fell in love with her character Elizabeth, who probably worked for MI5 in recent years, at the first reading and dreamed of playing the role someday. In addition, the project gave the actress the opportunity to reunite with longtime colleagues: with Kingsley, Helen began her work at the Royal Shakespeare Theater; with Brosnan, she starred in «The Long Good Friday» in 1980 (although they did not share a single scene); and with Imrie, she worked on the comedy «Calendar Girls» in 2003.
Imrie plays the former nosy nurse Joyce, Brosnan plays the union activist Ron (and reunites with Columbus for the first time since «Mrs. Doubtfire»), and Kingsley plays the retired psychiatrist Ibrahim.

Katie Brand and Suzanne Heathcote adapted the script of «Thursday Night Murder Club» for streaming, and Columbus is producing the film in addition to directing it. The premiere on Netflix is scheduled for August 28.
Osmond’s original book became a New York Times bestseller, spawning three sequels: «The Man Who Died Twice», «The Bullet That Missed», and «The Last Demon», so if the movie is successful, there are chances of a sequel. The fifth book in the series is expected to be released in 2025.
