Mark’s running scene in the series Severance was filmed for five months, studying Tom Cruise’s «technique»

The second season of the series Severance, which debuted on Apple TV+ last Friday, started with a long scene of Mark Scout running through the corridors of Lumon Industries — and, although it might seem too simple to the viewer, the creators spent about five months on it alone.

The director of the series, Ben Stiller, noted in the official Severance podcast (via digitaltrends) that the scene is actually a “simulated long take” that consists of about “10 different parts.”

“And we filmed these 10 different parts over the course of five months,” — adds the lead actor Adam Scott.

The filming process in general used several different techniques for these parts — including a green screen with a treadmill.

“There was one shot that we did entirely with a green screen, a treadmill, and a motion control camera. In another, we removed one of the walls and used a robotic arm for the camera,” — explains Stiller.

Stiller also asked Scott to learn the “running technique” of Tom Cruise (you will definitely see it in each of the “Mission: Impossible” movies):

“Which I did, indeed. Anyone who wants to train for any running, just watch Tom Cruise,” — says Scott.

Among other interesting moments that viewers noticed in the first episode of the second season of “Розрив” — a mysterious voice of the Lumon building in an animated video shown to the Macrodata Refinement department employees after returning to work. Many fans suspect it was voiced by Keanu Reeves, though Apple neither confirmed nor denied it.

Interestingly, in an interview with Collider, the showrunner of “Severance ,” Dan Erickson, hinted that they chose an unnamed star whose voice “will evoke certain associations in viewers”:

“We considered several different people for this role and always wanted it to be someone with whom people have certain associations. Also, the voice had to reflect the warmth and friendliness of Lumon in the context of this video.”

Currently, the first episode of the second season of “Severance ” is streaming on Apple TV+ — the rest of the total of ten episodes will be released every Friday, until March 21st, inclusive. Recall that critics initially rated the continuation at a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes (now the score has dropped to 96%), while viewers gave the continuation 81%.
