Ryan Coogler’s horror film «Sinners» has launched with a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes: «Emotional, sexy and gory story»

Ryan Coogler’s new movie «Sinners» has all the chances repeat the success «Nosferatu»as the best horror of the year, at least according to the first estimates and reviews. At the moment, the movie has a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes (based on 37 reviews) and 83/100 on Metacritic (based on 16 reviews).

The story of «Sinners» takes place in the 1930s in the southern United States, during the era of «Jim Crow laws»The unofficial name for the laws of racial segregation in some US states between 1890 and 1964.. Trying to put their troubled lives behind them, twin brothers (Michael B. Jordan) return to their hometown after a long absence, but a disaster far greater and more sinister than they could have imagined awaits them at home.

  • «Sinners — is a lush, exciting, historical, phantasmagoric social panoramic vampire film from dusk till dawn. It is an imaginative, vivid portrait of a community in the Deep South in the early 1930s. It’s also a wild and bloody explosion — a thriller that pushes the vampire as a metaphor as far as it can go. An impressive demonstration of how lush and “serious” a popcorn movie can be», — Owen Gleiberman, Variety.
  • «Both arthouse and grindhouse are a blood-soaked mix that shouldn’t work. But it does. Thanks to Coogler’s strong direction, a terrific cast, breathtaking IMAX images, body-shaking sound, and soul-stirring music», — David Rooney, Hollywood Reporter.
  • «Sinners demonstrates yet another good reason why Coogler is the best director of his generation, and Jordan continues to show why he’s a true movie star…This is a vampire/gangster movie from the Deep South that may at times remind you of The Trap, The Color Purple, The Cotton Club, and pretty much all the Warner Bros. gangster films of the 1930s. But the thing is, the devilishly fun Sinners marches to the beat of its own drum», — Pete Hammond, Deadline.

The film, which cost $100 million to make and was shot on 65mm, is packed with talent both on and off camera — music composed by Ludwig Jóransson («Oppenheimer») and cinematography by Autumn Durald Arkapau («Black Panther»). Jordan leads a cast that includes Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell, Delroy Lindo, and newcomer Miles Caton.

«Sinners» — is Ryan Coogler’s fourth collaboration with Michael B. Jordan. It is also important that the director himself got a chance to demonstrate his talents without the restrictions he had with «Black Panther» Marvel. The film will be released in Ukrainian cinemas on April 17.
