Ryan Coogler to direct new «The X-Files» with spooky episodes and Gillian Anderson on board: «Make something for the real fans»

The director of Sinners, Ryan Coogler, has announced that the relaunch of the cult series The X-Files is next on his list.

At the same time, Coogler talked to Gillian Anderson, who played Agent Scully in the original. It turns out that this is one of the few mentions of the relaunch after the words of the original author Chris Carter.

«I’ve been excited about that for a long time and I’m fired up to get back to it. Some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really fucking scary», — Kugler said.

The director added that this project is «immediately next» on his list after «Sinners». At the same time, Chris Carter confirmed that he had spoken with Coogler about a possible renewal of the detective drama, which aired on Fox for nine seasons from 1993 to 2001. It was then revived twice — in 2016 and 2018. Now the director is working on a new version as part of a general agreement with Walt Disney Television.

Separately, Coogler confirmed that he had been in touch with Anderson: «She’s incredible and fingers crossed there». But at the time of the conversation, the actress was busy filming in the movie «Tron: Ares».

«We’re going to try to make something really great, bro, and make something for the real ‘X-Files’ fans and maybe find some new ones» the director added.

Kugler is well acquainted with restarts. It is he who stands by «Creed», who breathed new life into the franchise «Rocky». He also directed both parts of «Black Panther» for Marvel. The films received favorable reviews from critics and box office receipts.

His latest film — thriller «Sinners» about vampires with the highest rating «A» — is the director’s first completely original project. It has already been released in theaters and has grossed $4.7 million in previews, with a projected first weekend gross of up to $50 million.
