Netflix is planning to revive Saturday morning cartoons with an animated version of the sci-fi series «Stranger Things» — a project called «Stranger Things: Tales From ’85» is officially in development.
«We’ve always dreamed of an animated Wonderland in the style of the Saturday morning cartoons we loved as children, and seeing this dream come true is extremely exciting», — stated showrunners «Stranger Things» Duffer brothers.
There are few details about the project at the moment. Given the title, we can assume that the animated series will be an anthology, like «Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi» from Disney Plus. The year in the title coincides with the time of the events of the third season of «Stranger Things», which reveals more about Hopper’s storyline and the meeting of Dustin and Suzy; at the same time, Russians create a science center under the Starcourt shopping center, and a group of children exposes their evil intentions.
Although the Duffers will hand over the position of showrunner to Eric Robles («Glitch Tech»), they will retain the positions of executive producers and emphasize that the franchise is in «good hands».
«We’re impressed with what Eric and the team have come up with – the scripts and design are incredible».
An exclusive premiere screening of the animated series «Stranger Things: Tales From ’85» will be held in June at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The release date on streaming has not yet been announced.
