The original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. trilogy will receive a next-gen update in 2025

GSC Game World will release a next-gen update for the classic S.T.A.L.K.E.R. trilogy — «Shadow of Chernobyl», «Clear Sky», and «Call of Pripyat».

GSC announced the update as part of its quarterly report on the studio’s plans for the coming months. Back in 2024, the developers announced that they were preparing an update to the classic S.T.A.L.K.E.R. — for both PC and consoles. At that time, the studio openly did not elaborate, didn’t know what exactly will be in the updates. However, she hinted at improved graphics, performance, gamepad support, and possibly Steam achievements.

The so-called «next-generation» patch for older games is expected in the second quarter of 2025. So far, there is no clear release date, so we will follow the GSC reports.

However, in the second quarter, players will have a closed beta test of the Mod SDK together with the modders. And later, a public beta of modding tools with Steam Workshop and manual mod installation. Other updates include NPCs, stalkers, mutants, and more. Although some was waiting for a port to PlayStation 5, but the developers had previously said they had no plans to do so.

As a result, updates will now have a structure, and the first one is scheduled for the second quarter. Quarterly updates will become the new normal — at least until some «new anomaly» derails the plans. It is expected that the GSC is committed to transparent communication.

The creators are currently working on upcoming DLC that will give players a new look at the Zone and unexpected plot twists. The studio doesn’t want to stop at just developing the franchise, and will work on other games. In addition, GSC increased staff by almost 30%in six months.
