It turns out that the latest shocking episode of The Last of Us contains even more drama if you listen to the final song.

If you’ve already watched the second episode of The Last of Us, or played The Last of Us Part II, then the following information will hardly surprise you — in addition to the frantic infected invasion of Jackson, the story eventually brought us one of the biggest losses when Abby (Caitlin Deaver) has accomplished her original goal and killed Joel (Pedro Pascal). However, if you listen to the song in the finale, the sense of drama of the moment will increase many times over, as the original Ellie from the game, actress Ashley Johnson (who also played the mother of Bella Ramsay’s character in the first season of the series).
You won’t actually see Johnson in the footage, but she’s the one performing the final song, Through the Valley by Sean James. The actress originally recorded it for a video game commercial back in 2016, but this time showrunner Craig Mazin asked for a «slightly updated version of» combined with new recordings.
«I’ve always loved this song. I remember that release trailer and what it did to my brain and heart. We also have a connection with Ashley, not only because she created Ellie in the game, but because she plays Ellie’s mom. It’s an interesting thing at a time like this, when your only parent is taken away from you and a mom you’ve never met is looking up to you,» Mezin told EW interview.
So far, the second episode of The Last of Us has received the highest rating for the series on IMDbalthough on Rotten Tomatoes the overall the viewership rating dropped to 53%. If you look at the reviews, it seems that only fans of the original game are bombarding «with negative ratings (mostly complaints about Bella Ramsay’s cast), while the reviews of «newcomers» remain quite decent. Critics gave the second season 93%, noting that it holds the bar as the best video game adaptation of all time.
The first two episodes of the second season of The Last of Us are currently being broadcast on HBO (with official Ukrainian dubbing on Megogo) — the rest of the seven episodes will be released every Sunday. In previous interviews, producer and creator of the franchise Neil Druckmann noted that the ending will make fans «beg for a sequel», and earlier HBO officially extended the series for a third season.
