During the conference «European Defense Industry: Prospects for Cooperation with the Ukrainian Defense Industry», the Ukrainian laser system «Tryzub» was demonstrated for the first time. The event was attended by Vadym Sukharevskyi, Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who showed footage of the laser weapon.
In the video (from 1:03:33), information was provided on the types of targets and the effective range of their destruction using the «Tryzub» system. This laser system is designed to destroy ground and air targets. It can be used to destroy attack drones and air bombs at a distance of up to 3000 meters. It is also reported to be able to destroy cruise and ballistic missiles at the same distance. In addition, the «Trident» is capable of destroying helicopters and airplanes at a distance of up to 5000 meters. In addition to destroying targets, the laser system is also capable of optically suppressing (blinding) drones, cruise missiles, helicopters and airplanes at a distance of up to 10,000 meters.
In the video, you can see the laser weapon system operating against a stationary conditional ground target. The video also shows the operator’s workstation and how to aim at an air target using a joystick. At the same time, a short video showed the counteraction of the FPV drone on fiber optics using the «blinding» mode.
The conference participants did not disclose information about the combat use of the Trident laser system. Therefore, it is currently unknown whether it is at the testing stage or is already in service with the Armed Forces and destroys enemy targets in combat.
At the same time, the video showed for the first time a new Ukrainian surface drone «Alligator 9». It is positioned as an anti-ship system, which, in particular, involves the use of a control boat with an installed laser system «Tryzub 90».
At the end of last year, Vadym Sukharevskyi saidreported that Ukraine possesses a modern laser weapon called «Trident», capable of destroying aircraft at a distance of more than 2 kilometers. Earlier was reportedreported that Ukraine may receive DragonFire laser weapons from the UK, which can shoot down UAVs at a cost of less than 500 UAH per shot.
