OpenAI plans to reduce the cost of ChatGPT Plus subscription amid the hype around its Chinese competitor DeepSeek — from $20 to $10.
At the same time, the price upgrade will be available exclusively as a promotional offer: for new users and only for the first 3 months (the rest will pay as before).
The planned changes were noticed in the new build of the ChatGPT web program by Tibor Blago, a reliable AI insider who previously hinted at the launch of the Operator assistant (finally officially unveiled last week).

A few days earlier, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced that the company will add the thinking» AI model o3-mini to the free version of ChatGPT.
Interestingly, all OpenAI’s announcements and actions take place against the backdrop of «takeoff» a competitor — a startup called DeepSeek, which offers AI models similar in skills and performance, but for free. At the same time, the main advantage of the Chinese company (which has already brought down the AI market) lies in the use of less money and resources: for example, its V3 model was developed in just 2 months, used a cluster of 2000 specialized chips from Nvidia, and cost only $6 million (for comparison, GPT-4 alone cost more than $100 million).
Openness of models DeepSeek has also already allowed her program to bypass ChatGPT in the American App Store (though, because of this the company had to temporarily suspend the registration of new users), as well asbecome the most popular AI model in HuggingFace.
