Steven Knight, the creator of «Peaky Blinders», has debuted a new series called A Thousand Blows — a drama based on real events that took place in Victorian London.
The plot centers on two friends, Hezekiah and Ale, who move from Jamaica to the East End, where they take part in underground battles, as well as a robber and the leader of the «40 Elephants gangA real-life female crime syndicate that operated in the UK in the 19th and 20th centuries, specialized in shoplifting and long evaded detection by the police.» Mary Carr, who plans to recruit them to participate in a large-scale robbery. The series stars Malachi Kirby («Black Mirror»), Frances Lovehall («Death on the Nile»), Erin Doherty («The Crown») and Stephen Graham («Underground Empire»).

Currently, the series 93% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but slightly worse ratings from viewers — 76%. However, given the creator’s body of work, the series definitely deserves at least an attempt to be watched.

Source Variety called the show «another knockout from the creator of Peaky Blinders», and The Guardian— «an extremely fun journey into the dark world of Victorian combat».
«Fighting the Peaky Blinders has never been easy, but A Thousand Blows puts up a good fight. Malachy Kirby and Stephen Graham give it their all, and if you like bloody blows — you’re in for a treat… Stephen Knight’s Victorian-era boxing world is certainly very different from the previous drama, but just as exciting — with taverns and back-street brawls setting the stage for even higher stakes», — concludes ICN.
The series «A Thousand Blows» has been streaming on Hulu since Friday and consists of 6 episodes (however, it seems that there will be a sequel).
