Finally, James Gunn has announced the premiere date of season 2 of «Peacemaker» and showed new footage from a short teaser.
In the video, Christopher Smith (John Cena) gives a thumbs up in the middle of the chaos with fire and then jumps out the window. The teaser ends with Leota Adebayo (Daniel Brooks) telling Smith: «You’re a Superhero now». His character seems to be finally becoming a hero in the new season — not in the DC way, but in the Peacemaker way: with explosions and swearing.
Last year, Gunn set off a real boom in fan theories when he said that the first season, «Peacemaker» — not canon. Now he explains: «almost the entire» first season is still part of the new DCU, except for one moment — the scene with the Justice League in the finale.
«The truth is almost all of Peacemaker is canon with the exception of Justice League. Which we will kind of deal with in the next season of Peacemaker», — says James Gunn.
To get around this point, perhaps the characters will find themselves in another part of the multiverse. This version is supported by photos from the set: one of the murals depicts Smith in a new costume, his father as the White Dragon, and another mysterious character. Many fans believe that this is —Keith, the deceased brother of the Peacemaker.

Robert Patrick will also return as Augie Smith, despite the fact that his character died in the first season. So either these are flashbacks or the multiverse is doing its job.
As of today, post-production of the second season premiere has been completed. «Peacemaker» will be the first live action series of the new DCU — after cartoon «Commando Monsters» in 2024, а a month before it, a new «Superman» will be released.

The series is being created under the direction of executive producers James Gunn, Peter Safran and Matt Miller. John Cena is serving as co-executive producer, and Stacy Littlejohn is on board as a consulting producer. And finally — the show not only returns but also retains key cast members, including Sina, Brooks, and likely Eagle Eagle.
