Quentin Tarantino’s friend reveals the plot of «Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 2» — is not a sequel, but a separate story of Cliff Booth

Last week, leading Hollywood websites reported on Netflix plans to make a movie «Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 2»and now they have received confirmation from Quentin Tarantino’s close friend Sean Fennessey.

This time, Tarantino is only acting as a screenwriter, while David Fincher is directing, as he confirmed on The Big Picture podcast (via World of Reel) Fennessey, hinting at the start of filming this summer:

«The list of David Fincher films that have never been released on the big screen or on Netflix is quite long… I don’t know if this is similar to the movie that will start production in July. It seems like it is».

Fennessey clarified that «Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 2» should not be considered a sequel — it is rather a separate story about a dubber and stuntman Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt).

«This probably should not be considered a sequel, but rather a second movie connected to the first. Think of — The Big Sleep, Raymond Chandler’s adaptation starring Humphrey Bogart, which takes place in the same world as Robert Mitchum’s 1975 Farewell, My Fair Lady. But these are different actors, different directors and a different time in the story».

According to Fennessey, Booth’s further adventures will take place in 1977 — that is, approximately eight years after the events of «Once Upon a Time in Hollywood».

Interestingly, in March 2023, Tarantino himself said that the action of his next (tenth and last) film will take place in the 1970s — the same one that was originally intended to be dedicated to a famous film critic, and eventually turned into a sequel with Pitt in the lead role and Fincher as director. The duo has worked together many times and have made such movie hits as «Seven», «Fight Club» and «The Mysterious Case of Benjamin Button».

According to rumors, the estimated budget of the film is — $200 million, but it is unknown whether Netflix will release the film in wide release before its debut on the streaming service. Earlier, insider Jeff Snyder hinted that Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie might make cameos in the movie.
