According to new reports, Google has decided to cancel the development of the Pixel Tablet 3 tablet codenamed Kiyomi. The decision was made last week, and all teams working on the device were transferred to other projects.
This means that the upcoming Pixel Tablet 2 is likely to be the last tablet from Google, at least for a while. There is good news, though: it is expected to have an official case with an integrated keyboard, unlike the predecessor.
This news clearly indicates that Google was not too keen on the idea of tablets. The company has strangely avoided integrating useful tablet-specific features into Android, allowing Apple to virtually monopolize the market.
However, it seems that Google has an amazing plan to compete with the iPad – to combine Chrome OS with Android and release a laptop. In general, however, Google’s strategy for tablets seems unclear.
