Metacritic has released a ranked list of the best TV series of 2024. The list includes streaming series that have received at least seven reviews from critics and have only one season.
The first place was taken by the British series Baby Reindeer with a score of 88 out of 100. The drama was created by Scottish comedian Richard Gadd, who adapted his own stage play based on real events. Gadd played the role of Donny Dunne, an aspiring comedian who is pursued by an obsessed fan, Martha (Jessica Gunning). The series won six Emmy awards out of eleven nominations.
In second place is — Shogun from FX with a score of 85 points. The film adaptation of James Clavell’s epic novel is set in feudal Japan in 1600. The plot centers on Lord Toranaga’s (Hiroyuki Sanada) struggle for power, which is interfered with by English captain John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis). The series won a record 18 Emmy awards out of 25 nominations.
The third place went to the British series Rivals with a score of 84 points. The eight-episode drama, adapted from the novel by Jillian Cooper, tells the story of the ruthless world of independent television in England in 1986. The series stars Aidan Turner, David Tennant and Katherine Parkinson.
