Microsoft has fixed a Windows 11 bug that many would like to keep

Recently Microsoft has removed Copilot by mistake with Windows 11, which many people were happy about. But the celebration was short-lived.

The Windows 11 emergency update fixes an issue that caused the Copilot program to be automatically removed from Windows 11 24H2, 23H2, and Windows 10 after installing the March 2025 cumulative updates (KB5053606, KB5053598, and KB5053602). Microsoft has released an emergency patch to prevent this.

Microsoft has updated its technical support information to confirm that the Copilot disappearance has been fixed. There have been almost no complaints about this error from users.

«This issue has been resolved and the affected devices are back to their original state», — Microsoft says.

After the update Copilot is automatically installed and pinned to the taskbar if it was removed by an update in March 2025. If you suddenly need the app but it doesn’t appear, Microsoft recommends reinstalling the app from the Microsoft Store and pinning it to the taskbar, or waiting for a fix.

On March 11, Microsoft released mandatory security updates for Windows 11 and Windows 10, which were rolled out gradually. The updates were released as part of the Tuesday patch cycle. During testing, some users noticed that KB5053598 resulted in a «blue screen of death» and even rendered some SSDs unusable. Also, Copilot disappeared automatically, which Microsoft later confirmed but did not provide an explanation.

This month’s cumulative update brings a few more problems. On some systems, there are problems with a printer connected via USB. The printer automatically prints random text from the time it is turned on after being disconnected.

How useful are the intrusive assistants, with or without artificial intelligence, that OS and tech manufacturers have been introducing lately? In a recent discussion, users on Reddit says that after 14 years of existence, Apple’s Siri cannot even answer the question «what month is it?», and give other examples. The company also has a big issue with introduction of artificial intelligence functions in Siri as well as with the Apple Intelligence. Copilot hasn’t been very enthusiastic about it either.
