MSI and Gigabyte «have shown» NVIDIA RTX 5080 with 24 GB and 32 Gbps memory — but it’s too early to rejoice

In an MSI video, 24 GB was spotted on NVIDIA RTX 5080, and Gigabyte listed in the specs of all their RTX 5080s 32 Gbps, instead of the official 30 Gbps. But these specs are unlikely to be accurate.

One of the users noticed in a public MSI video a mention of an RTX 5080 video card with 24 GB of GDDR7 Vanguard Launch Edition memory. Most likely, MSI accidentally showed the wrong box, but it is curious how such a mistake could have occurred? It is unknown whether NVIDIA actually planned such a version of the video card, or it was just an assumption by MSI.

To get 24 GB of GDDR7 memory, NVIDIA would have to equip the video card with new 3 GB GDDR7 modules. They are already available on RTX 5090 for laptops, which, by the way, has the same GPU and bus.

Another manufacturer, Gigabyte, indicated in the specs of all their RTX 5080s a speed of 32 Gbps, higher than the standard 30 Gbps for this model. Even without the increase, the RTX 5080 memory is faster than in other Blackwell video cards, which have “only” 28 Gbps.

As of writing this news, the official Gigabyte website still displays this value. Its origin is unknown, as well as whether it is an error or a technical feature. Probably, everything will be clarified when the real video cards arrive at the end of January.
